Show reports and Pictures taken at the Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal sponsered trade show in Sheridan Wyoming.

Show Report - Ron Ross gave a complete show report on the member's mailing list. It's reprinted here in its entirety.

These are my pictures and story of Sheridan 2000.

King Museum

Here is where it all started, The king Museum.

Excalibur - Not all cowboys drive pickups. Dusty Johnson prefers a bit more elegant ride.
Don King - On the right is the man responsible for the party. His name is on the side of the building, Don King. A great artist and a fine man.
Guild Members - First timers to Sheridan show up at 6pm. Anyone who has been there before goes earlier. Here we see, from left to right, xxx, Ron Ross, Jeff Bement.
Free Bar! - Yes, Don pays for the bar. It was a popular spot. The bartenders are all King employees.
Jim Jackson - The talented Mr. Jackson relaxes, waiting for the opening of the Al and Ann Stohlman Museum.
Peter and Ann - Peter Main and Ann Stohlman after the ribbon cutting (with a Head knife, no less) to the Al and Ann Stohlman Museum.
More Ann - Ann sat at the bottom of the stairs and greeted all who came. That big fella on the left is Wayne Christansen.
Let's Eat! - The buffett was very popular!
Picnic spot - The best spot to eat was outside. It was much cooler!
Singer - We were serenaded by some great old cowboy tunes.
Arrival - Until the 7th Cavalry showed up!
More Cav! - They just keep coming!
The band played on - When you fire up that many horns and drums in a small building, it gets really loud.
Da Drum - I'm glad I don't have to carry that drum!

Meanwhile, upstairs in the museum.

Silverwork - Al was talented at many things. Not the least of which was silver work.
Saddle stand - If it could be covered with leather, Al and Ann covered it.
Bench, right side - Beware the glare from drooling leather crafters.
Bench, Left side - Even more room to work on the left.
First figure tools - The prototypes for the figure carving tools we all use.
Al's Bench - Al's workbench, with pictures, under glass, of some of his many works and inventions.

The next day saw many a hangover at the Holiday Inn.

Check in - The Check in booth was manned by the crew from the LC&SJ. Here I surprise Bill Reis with my flash. He'd been ducking me all day. :) I never did get Dot to slow down long enough to take a picture of her.
Texas Wholesale Leather - Leather is what it is all about, and TWL had a pile of it to sell.
The Leather Factory - Let's not forget our old friends at The Leather Factory. They had a LOT of stuff to sell. I wonder if Kevan had to pack it all up and haul it back to Billings before he got to fly back to Spokane?
Weaver Booth - Any place selling tools was pretty busy all the time.
Bee Natural - Bee Natural had all their products there, including some new ones.
Bill Gomer - When they weren't teaching classes many of the teachers were doing demos on the floor. Here Bill Gomer discusses some of the fine points.
Tandy - Guess who else showed up! With all their books, even the old ones! They also had an ever rotating display of Al's originals. They changed each day.
Stevenson Paxton - If it's hide, they had it. Another very popular subject at the show.
Clint Fay's Book - This poor lady was so busy selling books I don't think she sat down during the whole show. And a very good book it is!
Luberto's - Tony Luberto and company where there demonstrating their new stitcher. They'll paint it whatever color you want. The real beauty is under the paint though. Just have to save my pennies now.
Hidecrafters - As always, George Hurst and Crew brought a truckload of tools, tapes, and talent to the show. Another VERY popular stopping spot.
Don Roland - I'm not sure who this guy was, but he looked a little shifty to me. ;) Nah, that's guild member Don Roland, saddle maker, artist, poet, and world class bull sh*t*r. He makes some mighty fine swivel knife blades. You can't see it in the picture, but he (and all the other guild members I could find) had IILG flyers in their booths.
More Teaching - Darwin Ohlerking demonstrating some of his techniques to a lovely lady.
Chuck Puhl - Warning! If you see this man please do not approach him. He is a known escapee from Spokane Washington and should be considered talented and dangerous, he's also a guild member! He had the best booth in the house. You had to walk past him to get from one room to the other, to the restaraunt, or the bathrooms! Chuck would sell you something each time you went past. That little red gadget in front of him is a ball jointed saddle stand, ala Al Stohlman's "Old George." It was a popular item!
Bowden Brand Trees - I'll tell you how big this show is. They even had them set up in the parking lot!

The best part of the show opened on Saturday, the World Leather Debut!

The winning saddle - A very nice saddle indeed!
Jackets
Sunset - Bet you can figure out who did this, Peter Main. :)
Sheild - One of my favorite pieces.
Belts
Cigar Box - Jim Jackson's (?) Cigar box. A big hit with everyone.
Cigar Box 2 - Another view
Hands of the Master - Jesse Smith's sculpture was rather eerie, especially when he was walking around with it!
Gun Belt - Those are toy pistols in there. Mighty fine gun belt for plastic though.
Folder - Sheridan style.
Sheild - I'm not sure what to call it, but it sure is nice. A very popular item at the show.
More Belts
Fishing Hat - This was in a plastic case, so it was tough to get a good picture of.

Still more Pictures - A Peter Main pic, Rodeo Picture, the cigar box, and some other 3-d items.
Picture of chaps - I liked this one. A nice "still life".
Peter's Porfolio - This was about as close as I could get to Peter Main's Portfolio. He sent this picture to the mailing list.
Peter Main LC&SJ cover - Here is the uncluttered cover from the March April LC&SJ.
Tiny Parrot - Thank's Peter, now my wife wants one! In case you can't tell that center area is about the size of a large postage stamp.
Mini Saddle
Four by Robb Barr - Four pictorials by Robb Barr.
Winning Saddle - Admiring the winning saddle.

Saddle 8 - A Don King special! That seat is manta ray skin.
Saddle 9 - By Jim Harmen, Pogue River Oregon.
Saddle 10 - This one is special, That isn't paint, it's hand embroidered. Each stitch done by hand. The gentleman who does this work in Mexico was set up in the Tippman booth selling belts and knife holsters. He said a belt takes a week. I wonder how long this saddle took!
Detail shot - A detail off the skirt of Saddle 10.
Picture This picture has the same stitching as the border. it was almost 5 feet tall.

Saturday's Guild Member Lunch

Lunch was at the Sheridan Palace, just a few doors South of King Rope and Saddlery. We had a wonderful buffet, and much fun was had by all. It's great to get to meet people in person and put faces and names together. Not everyone we thought would be there was, since some couldn't get away from their booths, but we who where there had a great lunch and a lot of fun.
