Pitt Pounders 2002 Show at Butler Pennsylvania, Report

Maria's Report

Well, I am a little late on getting my recollections from the Pitt Pounders
Show in Butler, Pennsylvania because I just got home from my trip yesterday.
It was a fourteen hour drive through several large cities-Nashville,
Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Wheeling, and to the west of Pittsburg.  I
had to take today off to recuperate and catch up on all the emails I had
waiting from this talkative group.  Holly has already hit upon some of the
highlights of the show, so I will try not to repeat her news.

The Butler show was a smaller show than the first show I had ever attended
in Lexington.  The smaller show gave me a chance to meet more people.  At a
leather show you will find the most interesting people.  Leatherworkers are
bikers, Indian enthusiasts, homemakers, professionals, etc.--you just never
know who you might meet at the shows or what is their interest in leather.

Holly mentioned that I had scribed.  Even though the show was small, I still
had a chance to scribe for a few items.  My judges were great.  Scribing is
a good way to learn leather, especially if you want to compete.

George Hurst & Hidecrafters sponsored a tooling contest for an open and
advanced category.  The award for first was a $25 gift certificate from
Hidecrafters.  I am happy to say that I won one and Jeff Carnes won the
other.  I know mine will be put to good use buying more Hidecrafter tools.

The raffle was a monopoly for Fred Kilburn who walked away with a table full
of goodies.  The raffle supports the guild, so I couldn't feel bad about not
winning anything.

I think that the Pitt Pounders Guild did a great job in organizing and
presenting their show.  I am looking forward to my next show, which will
probably be Indianapolis this fall.  Meanwhile, I need to get busy and start
getting some entries for the show.  Hope to see some of you there.
