Peter Main gets hoodwinked!
(from Ann Waters' Ventura report) Saturday evening was the date scheduled for the IILG dinner. Wayne, Sandi, George Cubic, his wife, Joe Barth, Bob Beard, Cheryl Smeja and her husband Jim and myself met at the Holiday Inn lobby and went to dinner at the Hungry Hunter. As Wayne said previously, Bob Beard kept us in stitches the entire time. Bob joined the IILG this weekend. He is a great addition to our group.
It was there that the plot was hatched to raffle Peter's Toy Box as a joke. Joe Barth came up with the idea and we all pounced on it immediately as a GREAT idea. Peter was not at the dinner as he was tied up with other obligations. Peter and Bob Beard have had a running gag for several years and this presented a great opportunity to add to it. George Cubic volunteered to be the person who claims the raffle prize. Dot Reis of the Leather Crafter and Saddler's Journal agreed to help out by donating a blank raffle ticket for George to fill out.
We had cameras stationed in Peter's location waiting for Al and Bruce to finish so Bill Reis could announce the final raffle of the event,. Peter and I were into a great discussion about his work and especially his toy box, when Bill made the announcement over the PA naming George Cubic as the winner of the coveted Peter Main's tool box. Peter had just finished telling me that "This will never leave me!" when he heard the announcement from Bill and then the Very Loud "YAHOO!!!" from George Cubic who played the part of an excited winner to the tee (Peter's comments graciously taken OFF record ;-). Peter was a GREAT sport and after he got over the shock, enjoyed the joke. :) Instead of his toy box, Peter Main gave George a picture of a kangaroo he had just finished carving. So George went home with an autographed original by Peter Main. :)
